The crowd and baseball field
For most of the game, the game was tied 1 to 1. Actually, the Red Sox got the first run on a Johnny Damon left field error. Later in the game, Jeeter hit a 3-run homer to take a 4 to 1 lead. Juilio Luego hit batted in a run after that. In the bottom of the ninth, 4 to 3, Luego got on base, Pedroia got on base, Elsbury got hit with a pitch and the bases were loaded.
Big Papi got up to bat, and the whole park was on its feet. We all wanted a grand slam, and rteally Ortiz just needed to get a base hit to tie the game, but he popped out to end the game.
But it was an exciting game and we had a lot of fun. The Red Sox will still be in the '07 MLB Playoffs.
The upcoming MLB season holds lots of promise and lots of surprises, if we go by history anyway. For example, who would have thought that the Phillies would have won the World Series at the beginning of last season?
There have been so many things that have happened during this off-season as well. It seems like every few years or so the New York Yankees 'steal' a big-name player from the Red Sox.
A few years ago it was Alex Rodriguez (a.k.a. A-Rod) who was first courted by Boston but ultimiately ended up with the Evil Empire, where he's been ever since. Mercifully, he's been a major dissappointment for New York and Boston fans have made peace with losing him to the Yankees.
But now this MLB off-season, Mark Texiera of the Rangers was available, and the Red Sox made it clear they wanted the big bat. But wait a minute. Hold on. Excuse me, but the New York Yankees want him too.
Where did Texiera end up? Not with the Red Sox. Not with the New York Mets. But the Yankees of course.
But even with all the money in the world (which is how it sometimes seems with the Yanks), something more is needed to win it all. And that's heart. In recent years, the Angels had it. The Phillies had it. The Cardinals had it. Many hope the Chicago Cubs get it.
I hope the Red Sox have it again this year.
Also, if you're into live music you'll be able to see Springsteen in Boston, Britney in Boston and the Conchords in Boston too.
Bosto truly has it all.
